I’ve been baking and decorating cakes for 17 years now. My mother decorated cakes, so I grew up with lots of sweetness. I guess I thought everyone’s mom decorated really cool cakes like mine!
While I enjoyed watching my mother make cakes, I decided to go to college for teaching. I enjoyed the French language and culture and decided to pursue teaching this subject. I completed my masters in teaching and taught French part-time at the University of South Dakota. I was also fortunate to study abroad in Paris for a year, and this is where I fell in love again with baking and pastries! When I returned to the U.S., I decided to open my own cake shop. I found it to be a wonderful artistic outlet. I also enjoy the happiness it brings to my clients.

I believe what makes my cakes stand out is ingredients and freshness. I use real sweetcream butter and cream in my frosting, unlike most grocery store cakes. I believe that taste should not be compromised when creating an important memory.
I am excited to have opened Café Brulé on April 6th, 2011. My partner and head chef, Jim Waters, and I serve American and French fusion cuisine for both country and city style appetites. Our spouses, Dwight Iverson & Heidi Waters, and children have been very supportive and we are very much a family-run business. We also serve all of our menu items on fresh baked breads. We are open 7am - 9pm every day and offer a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. We offer lots of fresh baked pastries each morning, specialty coffees, and of course lots of cake options! We also serve beer and wine.
